Spotted in France is an endearingly
loony, charming account of Gregory
Edmont's adventures with JP, his
Dalmatian. We've never much liked
Dalmatians (high-strung,
unpredictable) but you can't help
but fall in love with JP, the
goggle-wearing, Vespa-riding canine
hero of this entertaining book.
Greg, we've just learned, is off to
Hollywood working on the screenplay.
What is so marvelous about this book
(apart from the self-deprecating
charm and wit of the author) is how
he utterly transformed from
lay-about American to accepted
fellow citizen by the simple fact of
having a dog. The heart of the book
is a road-trip from Paris to
Provence, with many enounters and
detours along the way. JP, we must
admit, is uncannily well-behaved and
a charmer (who gets choice morsels
in some very fine restaurants).
